Kurt Hall


Kurt D. Hall is President and Chief Executive Officer of Detroit Thermal Systems (DTS). In this role, he has led strategic and operational initiatives for the enterprise since its inception in 2012.

Hall is a long-time executive to Vinnie Johnson led manufacturing ventures and served from 2001 to 2006 in roles including president and chief operating officer for Piston Group. Instilling a passion for customer service, teamwork, and quality excellence throughout organizations, he challenges teams to continuously improve and contribute innovative thinking to drive winning outcomes.

Hall boasts an accomplished career spanning 35 years in the automotive and transportation industries with a specialty in business strategy and transformation. Hall has led effective imperatives for business start-up, growth, new operation deployment, turnaround and lean operations performance improvement. Through each initiative, he leverages deep experience in team building, change management and development of creative strategies with tactical solutions.

Prior to joining Detroit Thermal Systems LLC, Hall led the Vehicle Control Systems business unit for MeritorWABCO within NAFTA, with responsibility for the profitability, strategic direction, commercial and engineering customer interface for chassis control and safety systems for the commercial vehicle market. An automotive supplier industry veteran, Hall was vice president at Continental where he spent 23 years in prominent leadership roles and achieved world-class levels of talent development, product and process execution, lean/quality systems and operational performance. Early in his career, he was director at ITT Automotive where he served for 11 years in roles of increasing responsibility. During his tenure at Continental Automotive, he served in a variety of executive leadership positions, including corporate officer and vice president of the Foundation Brake business unit within NAFTA. He also served as general manager, Piston Modules, LLC, a tier 1 joint venture between Piston Automotive and Continental which produced brake corner modules.

Earlier in his career, Hall held key positions with Unit FTT, Inc. (now GATX) a tier 1 material distribution company to GM, as the controller, and with Federal Mogul as a financial analyst within the Engine, Transmission Products Group. Hall began his career with Volkswagen as a member of the startup team to launch a second assembly plant in North America.

Hall received his master’s degree in business administration from Wayne State University and holds a bachelor’s of business administration in finance. He has completed the International Development Program of the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University as well as executive education programs at the University of Michigan.
